The European Union’s LIFE Program
The LIFE Program is the European Union’s Program for Environment and Climate Action for the period 2021-2027 and is one of the main contributors to the European Green Pact, which aims to:
- To transform the EU into a just and prosperous society, with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy, where there are no net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and where economic growth is decoupled from resource use.
- Protect, conserve and enhance the EU’s natural capital, and protect the health and well-being of citizens from environmental and climate-related risks and impacts.
The LIFE Program will contribute to these priorities through its four subprograms, in particular:
- Driving and integrating the implementation of EU policy objectives to halt and reverse the loss of habitats and wildlife species in all sectors, supporting the transition to a circular economy and protecting and improving the quality of the EU’s natural resources, including air, soil and water, among others.
- Support the implementation of the 2030 energy and climate policy framework, the EU’s 2050 climate neutrality target, and the new EU strategy on climate change adaptation and capacity building, stimulating investments and supporting the implementation of policies focused on energy efficiency and small-scale renewables.
